1. Serpent of Oceanside

It is said that, if you need to hide something important, hide it in plain site. Lying across the full length of the City of Oceanside, California, is the 5,500 foot long body-form of a great serpent. And, at the far end of the serpent’s tail stands the image of a small angel with wings spread wide.

The serpent is a powerful symbol of rebirth and represents transformation, healing and the creative life force. And here, the serpents body-form runs through the grounds of the Rosicrucian Fellowship.

Both the serpent and the head of Saint John surround the beautiful Temple of Mount Ecclesia, a unique repository of knowledge known as the Rosicrucian Fellowship, founded by Max Heindel. Here, all manner of sacred knowledge, both ancient and newly discovered, are stored and shared with all those who seek it.

The colorful cap of Saint John is actually a beautiful meditation garden and labyrinth. The road that runs around the grounds forms the outline of Saint John’s head and when the map is turned up-side-down, the profile of Max Heindel is revealed.

The Rosicrucian Fellowship is composed of men and women who study the Rosicrucian Philosophy known as the Western Wisdom Teachings as presented in The Rosicrucian Cosmo-Conception. This Christian Mystic Philosophy presents deep insights into the Christian Mysteries and establishes a meeting ground for Art, Religion, and Science. Max Heindel was selected by the Elder Brothers of the Rose Cross to publicly give out the Western Wisdom Teachings in order to help prepare mankind for the coming age of Universal Brotherhood, the Age of Aquarius. It claims to present mysteries or esoteric knowledge, alluded to in Matthew 13:11 and Luke 8:10, to establish a meeting ground for art, religion, and science and to prepare the individual through harmonious development of the mind and the heart for selfless service of humanity.  The rosy cross predates Christianity, where "the cross represents the human body and the rose represents the individual's unfolding consciousness.

The Rosicrucian Fellowship observes that no price, membership dues or fees, should be put on its teachings, and never to ask for money for membership, for information, for education, nor for healing.” Max Heindel

Mount Ecclesia sits upon the promontory of a high mesa overlooking the San Luis Rey River Valley and the Franciscan Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, founded in 1798. On April 7, 1995, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places as the Rosicrucian Fellowship Temple. Rosicrucian Fellowship
